Our fabrication drawing of panelized PWBs is done in AutoCAD as a dumb
drawing only. We provide Gerbers for the 1-up PWB that is to be
stepped and repeated (original design in VeriBest or PCAD). We show
tooling holes of global fiducials (SMEMA STD 3.1) on the thieving area
of the panel, and we don't provide CNC router files.

I recommend that you talk to your PWB manufacturers and contract
assemblers for their requirements and develop a specification that
incorporates everyone's needs to minimize the cost of the panel
design. Remember that you buy a panel from the PWB manufacturer no
matter how many boards you can put on it.

Subject: Panelling of PCBs

Many of our PCBs are panelled to go through our SMT line. Currently we
produce the gerbers for one board and provide a drawing showing the
PCB manufacturer how to step and repeat the board to produce the
panel. We have had problems in the past with the routing of the board
outlines and panel breakouts as a result. Most of our boards are
currently produced in PCAD 4.51 but we are moving to Veribest.
     Questions.
     1. Is anyone else using Veribest to produce panels?
     2. If you are,are you doing the panelling in Veribest, as a post
process in a Gerber editor or do you provide a drawing to your PCB
manufacturer showing the panelling? Which do the PCB manufacturers
prefer and which have provided you with the best results?
     3. What information do you provide to your PCB manufacturer? Do you
     provide router CNC files?
