Rigid flex is a big subject, but here are just a few answers to your
questions
PRO,s
It conserves space.
Once designed there are no operator induced random wiring errors.
Box looks professional
Easier to quality verify
Increased reliability
Easier to install
Can fit in places hard wiring can not
Possible to carry impedances across flex sections
Lighter
Circuitry can be folded back upon itself or stacked
Predictable, repeatable electrical performance can be obtained

CON's
Expensive
Nothing is worse that ripping off a leg due to an inexperienced installer

WHO BUILDS
Yes there is a unique fabricator base. Most can be found in the IPC
membership directory by looking in the back section of independent suppliers
under the columns on product type flex, or on the QPL for MIL-P-50884.

FURTHER INFORMANTION
There are many authors who have done excellent books on this subject, a
name that immediately comes to mind is Ken Gillieo formerly with Sheldahl,
and I think with Alpha Metals now.

Does anyone have experience with rigid flex applications? We are
interested in knowing the pros/cons, reliability/cost of this application.
Are there any specific vendors that specialize in this? Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks,
