We are a board shop and have had very good success with having old designs scanned to gerber format. However, as good ast odays technology is, the process requires skilled operators to produce good output. We have had god experiences witht he following scaning services:

There are many other services, check the IPC Technet archives, a couple months ago another inquiry was made on scanning services.
I believe both vendors are using Orbotech technology.
I have had no experience with taking Gerber data back to the CAD package, but you might want to contact

Subject: non-cad PCB Designs
Greetings,
Union Switch & Signal is a company that is well over 100 years old.
Printed circuit boards have
been designed here since the late 1960's so you can imagine how many
"non-cad" designs we have !
My questions are :
Do any of you have experience with scanning "non-cad" designs ?
If so, do you have the design translated into Gerber data and then imported
into a CAD system ? Are there any other options or methods ?
What services, software etc. did you use ?
Union Switch will hopefully be upgrading to the latest ACCEL product soon.
I understand that ACCEL EDA has
a "Gerber in" utility. Have any of you used this and how successful was the
transfer ?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance ......
Lou Takach
