The May/June issue of Environmental Technology published a list of environmental tools that will benefit anyone with Internet access. They are:

1. 1995 Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations (http://www.epa.gov/epacfr40/). Title 40 is not searchable but it can be downloaded by section.

2. Code of Federal Regulations (http://www.pls.com:8001/his/cfr.html). Complete, searchable CFR database. Updated through 1992.

3. Government Printing Office Databases (http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/aaces002.html). Federal Register database. Dates from 1994

4. EPA Listserver ([log in to unmask]). This provides a number of useful mailing lists that distribute information via electronic mail. To join, you send an email message to the EPA listserver address shown above. Leave the subject field of the message blank and enter the following in the body of the message: Subscribe [listname] [your first name] [your last name].

5. EPA's Envirofacts (http://www.epa.gov/enviro/html/ef_home.html). This database combines data from four major EPA programs: RCRIS, which contains information on hazardous waste transporters, generators, and treatment, storage and disposal facilities; CERCLA, which has information about Superfund and National Priority List sites; TRIS, which has data about the transfer of more than 300 chemical and compounds by medium of release; and PCS, which has data on more than 75,000 water-discharge permits.

6. Material Safety Data Sheets (http://hazard.com). Allows you to conduct searches by chemical or manufacturer name.

7. Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (http://atsdr1.atsdr.cdc.gov:8080/). ATSDR maintains the Hazardous Substance Release/Health Effects database, which provides access to information on the release of hazardous substances from emergency events and Superfund sites.

8. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (http://www.osha.gov/) (http://www.osha-slc.gov/). This web site provides regulatory and technical guidance on the Hazard Communication Standard, the HAZWOPR standard, asbestos standards, and indoor air quality standards. All of Title 29 is available with references to OSHA letters of interpretation.

9. USGS Water Resource Scientific Information Center (WRSIC) Research Abstracts (http://www.uwin.siu.edu/databases/wrsic/index.html). This collection of international water research contains more than 265,000 abstracts and citiations and is searchable by key words.

9. The Blymyer web site (http://www.blymyer.com) provides links to environmental web sites with brief descriptions that help determine whether the site will be useful.
