Dear Compliancenetters --

FYI, on May 21st, the EPA published its notice of proposed rulemaking under its "Significant New Alternatives POlicy (SNAP) program which is tasked with finding alternatives to ozone depleting chemicals. The notice is published at 62 FR 27873.

The EPA examined the use of Chlorobromethane (traditionally used as a fire suppressant) as a substitute for HCFC-141b, CFC-0113, and methyl chloroform in electronics cleaning. The EPA is proposing that Chlorobromethane be deemed "unacceptable as a substitute" due to toxicity concerns. No other alternatives were examined.
