Personally, I felt the Petroferm reply was appropriate. Especially for a
question that had such a broad spectrum of possible answers, this reply
could have been very useful for someone who is not familiar with the
electronics-cleaning playing field.

Jim,

I seems to me that there was some confusion regarding the Petroferm
notice. Since it didn't have the original message attached to it,
someone may have thought it was an unsolicited advertisement. I thought
that the Petroferm notice was within the bounds of good "Netiquette".
While I don't want ComplianceNet to turn into an advertising forum, to
think that only PWB manufacturers are capable of answering questions is a
little egotistical. In short, as long as the vendor is replying to a
posted question, I think that it is okay for it to be posted on
ComplianceNet.

What does everyone else think?

     Question about the compliance net:

I don't understand the tone of the response below regarding
'commercial messages.' Is there a rule against offering a solution
to
a compliancenetter who asks a question if the solution is a product
that you represent? Or is this response coming from someone outside
the compliance net? Or from someone who did not see the original
     question that generated the response?

I thought the Petroferm response was a logical and considerate
response to the persons' request for help finding an ecologically
     suitable flux residue solution.
