Greg,
There are several CAD systems which have added the RS274-X output format
such as Cadence/Allegro and P-CAD. This format helps tremendously not only
in eliminating errors with aperture entry but also in improving file
efficiency especially when describing split ground planes. If your PWB
suppliers can handle this format, you should consider sending them a test
design file to verify for yourself the benefits of using this format. For
those not familiar with the format, there are several sources of
information, one being the Gerber Format Reference Manual.

OFFICE MEMO DES: Gerber formats? Date: =

Our CAD suppliers currently provide us with Gerber files in RS274-D =
format, but several of our PWB suppliers have asked us to consider getting =
files in RS274-X format to take advantage of the embedded aperture list.
Has anyone seen any problems or difficulties with the newer RS274-X format =
which we should be aware of?
Thanks,
