Hi Victor -
Just to add to Ron's comments, we have had only one additional issue
pertaining to soldering of flex circuits - moisture considerations. We
tuned our hand/wave/reflow processes so that we avoided having
delamination problems. Some designs we prebake, sometimes designs we
control temperature application carefully otherwise we have had the
same success as Ron described. Good Luck.

Victor:
Flexible printed circuits have been around since the late 50's and have
improved greatly with the advent of new materials such as adhesiveless
polyimide film. The FPC can be soldered using all of the conventional
methods available for rigid PCB's. In some instance the FPC should be
palletized or rigidize for ease of assembly. There are various
materials such as thin, bendable FR4, mylar, Nomex, teflon, polyimide,
etc. As with rigid boards there are also different processes to add
the conductors such as additive, subtractive, metal filled epoxy, etc.
If you have further questions, I would be happy to help. Call

Hi,
I have seen some SMT components laying on circuits on a sheet of plastic,
which can be folded and saves some space. I also heard that cellular phone
or camera uses this kind of circuit board due to the limited space available.
My question is : how do they solder the components onto it? Normal
reflow? Would it go through the 200C without damage? What is the
material of it?
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
Victor
