It never ceases to amaze me on the variety of questions asked in this forum.
 I would agree with Dave's assessment.  Most of the dross you saw was a
reaction between the water and starches of the potato interacting with
solder, not pulling out existing solder.  Organically, if you pull the bulk
of the potatos out, the only chemical residues I could think of would be
water and starch, neither of which should remain around for long.  Not a
practice I think I would implement.
