Dear Tom,

I know of a company in the UK called Vision Engineering who specialise in
desktop semi-automatic inspection equipment. Aside from a patented viewing
technique that avoids eye-strain, it allows quite sophisticated inspection
of assemblies, enabling operators to monitor, measure and record a variety
of parameters, such as distances, thicknesses, etc. Significantly, they
enable you to view in 3-D to check for solder paste/pad integrity
during/after assembly.

You can probably get hold of them at:

Vision Engineering
Send Rd
Send, Woking
Surrey
GU23 7ER
UK

and feel free to mention my name.

Hope this helps.

Gordon Wong
