Reply to: RE>ASY: HOT BAR EQUIPMENT
Mike:
There is (was) a company in Southern California that has a hot-bar reflow
system specifically for PCMCIA cards. Presumably, Intel and IBM are using
several of them in their production of flash RAM cards.
The system requires the operator to manually feed the board into a vertical
slot. Then the system grabs the board, pushes it downward into the connector,
solders it and allows the operator to remove the finished assembly. It will
also solder the connector on the other end of the board (i.e. for a MODEM card
with an RJ-11 phone plug attachment). Unfortunately, I don't remember the
name of the manufacturer. Thruput rate was ~2 boards per minute with a
reported 99+% solder joint quality . Maybe of the "Techies" can fill in the
blanks.

Greeting to all!
We are currently evaluating hot bar equipment for mult-pin Surface Mount
connector (PCMCIA type). I am interested in inputs on application, potential
vendors, equipment capabilities, and other specifications required to
consider for Hot Bar soldering (speed, accuracy, thermal profile, etc.).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions q : - )
