Dear Colleagues:

Work begins on the development of the Level B Designers Certification exam. Here is your
chance to give input and direction and help form the items that test a designer's knowledge
of the electrical, layout and manufacturing issues which go into designing PWBs.

An item writing session is currently scheduled in your area. Be sure to set aside time in your
calendar for this important meeting. The IPC Designers Certification Task Group will conduct
the sessions on the following dates:

 CITY DATE HOST

Cleveland, OH October 21 John Sabo (216) 646-4643
Atlanta, GA November 11 & 12 Ben Davis (404) 623-7761
Boston, MA December 2 & 3 Janice Lund (508) 670-2240

At this time, only the October 21 meeting has a confirmed location. It is being held at
Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley, 1 Allen-Bradley Drive, Mayfield Heights. Specific
directions can be faxed; call if you need them.

There will be no item writing session at the IPC Design Conference and Exhibition this year.
As you may know, the IPC Designers Council has organized a comprehensive technical
forum and educational event; a must for all PWB designers.

The three-track technical conference is devoted to key issues such as
high-speed design,
design for manufacture, and advanced packaging technologies. It features speeches by
design experts including:  Lee Ritchey, 3COM Corporation; Gary Ferrari, Tech Circuits Inc.;
and Vern Solberg, Tessera Inc. Vendors exhibits displaying the latest in
designer tools and materials will also be featured.

To register for the Design Conference and Exhibition, which is being held
in Providence,
Rhode Island, November 1-3, please call Shelley, extension 322, at the IPC.
