                        IPC DESIGNERS COUNCIL

Many designers have long felt the need for better representation in the
general electronic interconnection industry. Now, they have it.

In 1992 the IPC Board of Directors (BoD) established a new category of
IPC membership, that of "Designers Council Chapter."

Any local group can form a chapter and join the IPC Designers Council,
whose goals are to improve communication; to play a greater role in
standards development; and to promote better understanding of design
issues that make a product easy or difficult to manufacture.

Designers need to provide more direct input on standards for components,
drawings, PCBs, PCB fabrication and assembly, and quality assurance,
plus:

        Design for Manufacturing
        Design Standardization
        Computer-aided Design/Computer-aided Manufacturing

The IPC Designers Council is a national organization, made up of local
chapters to encourage, facilitate, coordinate, and promote the orderly
exchange and integration of design concepts concerning printed board,
printed board assembly, and related technologies through communication,
seminars, workshops, local, national, and international chapter program-
ming and other means.

BENEFITS

        standards or specifications

CERTIFICATION

Another important council project, now available, is the designer's
certification program. Certification steps include study programs,
written examinations, and certification. This new program is intended
to provide national recognition for designer's capabilities and their
roles in the manufacturing process.

DUES

Chapters are treated like companies within the IPC. The president of
the chapter is responsible for yearly dues, which can be contributed
utilizing local member dues, newsletter advertising, corporate
sponsorship, etc.
