HADCO Corporation is U.L.-approved for up to 5 oz.
cu./ft. sq. work, although typically these types of boards
are processed through one of our Tech Centers. As a matter
of fact, certain niche type work fabricated in our Tech
Centers has been as high as 10 oz. cu.!
Although the assets are in place in our volume
facilities and tech centers to do primarily multilayer work,
we still do entertain work of a double-sided nature which
does not involve high-running, long-term commitments.
My big concern is the tape or film artwork. We work
strictly from electronic data, but when a customer has
mature product, the artwork can oftentimes be scanned and
digitized. Most larger board fabricators use electronic
data, usually Gerber but sometimes in other formats (DFX,
etc.). There are many design bureaus which can offer this
type of service, and HADCO has worked with some in order to
get the electronic data needed to fabricate a good, quality
artwork.
There may be smaller houses which can still accept tape
or film artwork as part of the engineering package.
Typically, because of the effects of heat and humidity on
film or tape-ups, care should be taken to make sure that the
film hasn't shrunk or grown, or some of the tape hasn't
flaked. Reproductions of reproductions of artwork may also
cause problems such as peppering or undefined feature edges.
Fingerprints and Exacto knives have also been known to
degrade artwork on a film medium. Another issue is with
stepping and repeating the artwork onto the panel,
especially with very small parts.
I wish you luck in your endeavors. If you need further
