In a recent cooperative cost-out session with a mass-lamination vendor,
a suggestion was made that we consider conversion of our multilayer layup to
increased or even exclusive usage of 7628 glass. What is the industry
experience regarding this conversion? In particular:
1) What are the effects on drilling accuracy? Hole wall quality? Drill
bit wear?
2) What are the imaging effects? Does the use of coarser glass generally
increase topography related defects?
3) What are the through hole plating issues?
4) Are there warp & twist, dimensional stability issues?
5) Are there electrical performance issues?
Also, this conversion would imply use of 7628 single-ply inners. I
thought I had saved (but didn't) the recent discussions of single-ply
construction. Would some of you knowledgeable people be willing to
summarize that information for me?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Greg Anderson
