Including changes in wetting angles which could affect solder volumes.

I see. I do not know of a method to calculate the amount of solder used, or if there is a formula for doing so.

It would have to be somewhat generic, using a calculated amount of solder for each PTH component type. Lots of variability in terms of pad sizes, changes in temperature of the PTH leads due to differing copper connections, etc, etc.

Hello Stadem

We currently use this method but we have +1000 PCBA different to measure and we would have to calculate it to put in our ERP system and then we will to update.

Best regards

How precise do you have to be? You can simply weigh some of the populated CCAs on a precision scale prior to soldering and again after soldering to get the average weight of solder per assembly. The moisture weight loss would be very minimal. A sample size of 8 will give you a 99.9% accurate mean average. No loss of product, just perform the weighing using production samples.

Hello to all

We need to calculate the theoretical amount of solder (In the wave solder - THT components) that will be used for each board, so Is there formula to calculate THT solder volume?

For example for SMD solder paste volume we use Greely formula to calculate the theoretical amount of solder paste.

ie: Greely Formula

Greely = (Alloy Specific Gravity x Flux Specific Gravity) / (Flux % x Alloy Specific Gravity )+ (Metal % x Flux Specific Gravity)

Thank you
