Hi folks - here is the Quiz:

The Question:
This element is not found in nature as a free element. This element caused
an evolution in color TV technology in the 1960s. Mountain Pass California
and Bayon Obo China are two primary sources for this element. The two
classes of this element's phosphors (red and blue), combined with the
yellow/green terbium phosphors give "white" light, and is typically
encountered in helical fluorescent light bulbs. This element's phosphors
are used in the anti-counterfeiting phosphors in Euro banknotes. What
element is being described?

The Answer:
The element is Europium (Eu). Before the introduction of europium, the
colorTV red phosphor was very weak, and the other phosphor colors had to be
muted, to maintain color balance. With the brilliant red europium phosphor,
it was no longer necessary to mute the other colors, and a much brighter
color TV picture was the result. The signature of europium in stellar
spectra can be used to classify stars and inform theories of how or where a
particular star was born.

- Awesome! The two lads can help with some 5S projects we have lined up.
Maybe they can even help with the lesser known 6th "S" involving a certain
weapon used to enforce the "Sustain" part of the 5... ;)
