Laser is typically better than camera as it is using a variation of LIDAR to measure the features and is not nearly as sensitive to color variations. We use Koh Young equipment with Laser with decent results.  I am trying to get my hands on a recent (independent) side-by-side SPI study.  I have 1 for Koh Young versus Omron, but there is a more extensive side-by-side review I can get a copy of, unfortunately it is after 5PM here, so it will be tomorrow.
