E-ions ago I was approached with a similar challenge. I had the tool shop fabricate a plastic dowel similar to a pencil with a precise notch cut at one end with max lead length height. It worked great for that generation....... Straddle the device on the component lead in question.....

Subject: [TN] Trimmed lead measurement / calibration

Hi T-netters;

The Company just certified to AS9100.

One of the minor observations related to the method used to measure the lead length to insure compliance with IPC requirements.

Are there any tools/devices/equipment available to measure lead lengths that is repeatable/traceable and will fulfill the AS9100 requirement?

I look forward to your responses.

Regards,

Rob
