Subject: Re: [TN] Liquid Latex Masking for Wave Soldering

I use 2 different materials and processes and used UV cure in a prior timeline:

Present:

If I have high volume, with SMT or through-hole, at least pre-wave on only a single side, I use Lackwerke Peters SD2950 series. It costs a few pennies a PCB and the PCB Supplier puts it on. Saves time and labor and has an excellent seal. You will have to design a masking layer to go with the PCB files, but not a bad way to go.

If it is just general run of the mill, I use Wondermask 2211 (Pink, non-staining). It is air dry and will also final cure over the pre-heaters. Otherwise it is an hour (or 2) to air dry.

Prior:

For UV Masks, I used a benchtop dispenser and a UV-A curing station (10 seconds) although I could have probably dialed it back to 5 seconds as it set up pretty quick. I tried a short UV tunnel (12 inches) right on the line, but did not remind the operator after the tunnel to flip the PCB over BEFORE they started putting parts in, so I cured offline after that mistake. I used the Dymax 9-20515 (RED).
