True, MCAD systems are more complete then ECAD systems for MCAD work but it's very useful to have an immediate and less costly mechanical check within the ECAD tool. It means I am not waiting for a Mechanical Engineer to be free to check something but can check as I go along, and the Mechanical Engineer is free to get on and do their work without having to stop to check things for me - without having to purchase another copy of Solidworks that won't be used as much. It's very good for communication amongst the team and use of resources and time.

Regards,

James

We do the same.

My point is that the MCAD systems are MUCH better at this than the ECAD systems. Which is why I think it would be a better use of development efforts to make a better interface between the two. Why try to basically put an entire watered down MCAD system into the ECAD system, when it already exists in a much more complete form in actual MCAD software? Let ECAD do ECAD and MCAD do MCAD, and focus development efforts on better linking the 2. The old adage "Jack of all trades, master of none" comes to mind,.

As for Silkscreen, yes, a shortcoming in the existing IDF interface (better interface?). I had to write a script from PADS to add markings to Solidworks.

Pete
