I guess I was thinking too much along the lines of my position.  I haven't done a PCB in just 2D in years.  But I also am the one that exports to Solidworks, modifying part models as needed, etc.  I find it much easier and more accurate to do the 3D work in Solidworks, but I do it myself rather than waiting for the mech team to get around to it.  Then they use my models in all of their higher assemblies.
