Who cares about the odds when you have God on your side?

Thank you Dean. However, history and experience says the odds are long against me.

HAHAHA! That was the best half-rational post Doug has done yet! He wins it all.

Subject: Re: [TN] Element Quiz Question

My esteemed colleague refers to another of the half fractional elements, Godium 0.5, the only element lighter than hydrogen. This element was first postulated by Dr. Edward God, of Iowa State University – Hamburg, in 1926.

Edward was a collaborator with George Uhlenbeck and Samuel Goudsmit in their work on quantum spin, though both Uhlenbeck and Goudsmit refused to acknowledge Edward in their work fearing the statement “we collaborated with God” might be misinterpreted. Edward put forth some unique ideas regarding the interaction between electrons and magnetic fields, which inspired Niels Bohr’s later theories on quantum mechanics. Niels likewise could not acknowledge Edward’s influence for a fear that being “inspired by God” would not be taken the right way. Edward continued his research and worked with Dr. Otto Han on the first fission reaction. Han wanted to do it one way, and Edward another, with Edward’s approach eventually proving the optimal way. Han did not acknowledge this fearing that explaining this approach to fission as “the will of God” would definitely get him in trouble.

There has only been one known instance of isolating a pure sample of Godium. You see it in the Tom Hanks movie Angels and Demons, where it is referred to as the God Particle. The raw explosive potential of Godium was demonstrated at the end of that movie.

Sadly, Edward met with a tragic end. Angered by lack of recognition for his important contributions, he went to the middle of campus and yelled “I am God and I will not be ignored”, which was overheard by a nearby sect of the Iowa Lutheran Church – Hamburg synod, an ultra-conservative sect, who promptly burned him at the stake as a Heretic, along with all of his notes. Ironically, in defending God, they killed God.

So, Dave, what do I win this week?
