Here is the Element Quiz Question:

The Question:
This element does not oxidize in air. The name for this element is Spanish
in origin. This element exists in high abundance on the Moon. The most
common use of platinum is as a catalyst in chemical reactions. Large ore
deposits of this element are found in the Merensky Reef. Which element is
being described?

The Answer:
The element is Platinum (Pt). Platinum derives its name from the Spanish
word "platina" meaning "little silver". The largest commercial use of
platinum is for catalytic converters in vehicles. The early Spanish
explorers found quite a bit of platinum in South America but it was often
simply thrown away, and there was an official decree forbidding the
adulteration of gold with platinum impurities. The Merensky Reef is a layer
of igneous rock in the Bushveld Igneous Complex in South Africa and
contains most of the world's known reserves of platinum group metals.

The winner of the quiz is Leland Woodall and he will get the services
of Clumpy
and Kloumpios for the week. The discussion on Moon cheese was quite
entertaining! Its clear that the TechNet community is very creative and
imaginative.

There won't be a Element Quiz next week as I will be "investigating the
impact of lead-free metal alloys on the flight dynamics of North American
waterfowl with an emphasis on tungsten" and will need the boys assistance.

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

- This is really great! The guys can help me to clear out a flat (thousands
of books :-( ) and, of course, if they have enough of the dust of about 50
years, have fun with our cats again......(no dust, only cat's fur in red &
black)

Week 40 Leland Woodall
- assisted with ????

I hope everyone has a awesome week.
