The correct pronunciation has always been "sodder" or "soddering" to my knowledge. I have never heard anybody pronounce it with the L. So, nothing sodders to sodder like sodder does, as long as you don't sodder like my brudder does.

Subject: [TN] Group Consensus - Pronunciation of "Solder"

Hi TechNeters! Some light-hearted Friday discussion:

I'd like to get a group consensus regarding the pronunciation of the word "Solder".

Do you say "SODer" or "SOLDer"

I realize that it's certainly regional but I'm starting to hear more and more people pronouncing it "SOLDer" here in the states. Is it due to new people coming into the industry? More global interaction?

A friend of mine who's not in the industry once asked me why we say "SODer", since he thought it should be said "SOLDer". I didn't have an answer for him and it did make me wonder why.

Thoughts?
