To be accurate, polar bears have black skin and only have white fur.
Knowing that everything south of the equator is opposite, maybe penguins
have white skin and black feathers. And as Doug says, they slide on their
belly covering the black feathers with white snow! You are on to something
Doug, I'd bet Sir Richard Attenborough never knew this! This would also
explain the poor confused zebra which resides close to the equator.
