I just recently did the following:  imaging all the old computer that used
for instrumental control - such as xp - took them all off line from
network (prevent virus).  just in case hard drive crash or power supply
busted.  save few old LCD screen with RGB input... to safe guide the
instruments.  - of course, if your mother board busted, game over -many
got customer embedded hardware, but otherwise, it should be ok for a
while... (some of our laser is more than 10 year old).
