Oh well then, that's easy.  Trinitrotoluene replaced guncotton, first
developed by an early DuPont chemist Guncotton Smith.  Not much is known
about Smith as he came to an untimely end.  Guncotton Smith was a rather
clumsy individual; not a good thing to be when working with volatile
explosives.  I'll let all of you connect  the dots.
