So sorry to hear about Barry. My condolences to Barry's family and friends.

Our little designer community is very talented but getting older... (I turned 61 this year).

57 years old is way too young... I'm sure he would agree that there's so much left to do... Life is so very short.

I participated in the Top Gun competition once... it was a good challenge. One thing I found there, was the idea that this skill set isn't just about me getting a job.

Rick Hartley asked me if I ever thought of mentoring... He encouraged me to look into it. That set me on a journey that I don't think I would have found if he hadn't shared his thoughts with me.

You must know that each and every one of you matter. You make a difference... you are appreciated. Please, share, mentor, and teach, even if it's just a fellow employee or friend.

Reach out and lend someone a hand, share with them what you know... The younger ones coming up are looking to find a path to their own success and the only ones who have been there are we few that are here designing away day to day. Think back, someone else helped you... consider passing it along. :)

There are many ways to contribute, I notice the STEM projects going on... Kids learning how to develop robotics, technical skills, electronics, computer programming...there's an interest out there.

Meanwhile I'll keep designing complex boards, sharing what I know and having a blast with my sculpting and painting. I have some good memories with my kids and grandkids... I plan to make more. I hope it lasts a good while longer. There's so much to do. :)

RIP Barry.

Best regards,

I’m sad to share the news that Barry Hurley, for years a fixture at the PCB West conferences and one of the original Top Gun Award Winners, passed away Nov. 12 at the age of 57. An obituary and some visitation and other information is here:
