Thanks for the feedback.  Aluminum.  I would feel safe, cosmetics aside, using the parts as is.

Thanks, Roger. We were told by the coating house that they can't repeat the process. They may not know that stripping is an option. 

The coating is yellow/gold chromate on 3003 Aluminum.
