Hi Doug,
We recently had a SCS facility EOS/ESD assessment performed. We did very well. The only hit we took was a plastic (Wal-Mart) fan in our
Shipping dept. Even with our climate control, they were still able to measure some serious voltage when it ran.

Subject: [TN] Fans and ESD

Good morning all,

We had an outside audit "observation" that I would like some outside opinions on. In your facilities, are simple air circulation fans, usually plastic blades and a plastic housing (think inexpensive Walmart) targeted as an ESD generator? I have never heard of such and my view is that if our humidity stays above the 30% minimum found in most ESD standards, then we should not have charge generation.

So, are cheapy plastic fans an ESD hazard?
