Technetters, a customer is calling for a bare board with ENIG surface finish to have 'surface and hole solderability...per J-STD-003, class 3, category 3'.
After studying IPC-J-STD-003C amendment 1, I ask you all, does that mean
- M coupons experience 8 hours of 72 ±5 C/85±3% RH, followed by a 60±5 minute bake at 105±5 C, followed by a 'surface mount simulation test'?
- S coupons are not tested?
Thanks for any guidance or comments. Given what to me is the bewildering organization of 003C combined with the associated amendment 1, I am starting to think I may have to request the customer define the solderability test in specifics I find possible to understand. In response to anyone who may ask why I need help digesting a standard on whose committee I served, I will say immediately that I knew all along that I was not putting as much effort into its preparation as I should have. Louis Hart
