Bev,

Turned on my computer this morning and this was the first email to hit me.
This truly saddens me, but I can't say that I'm surprised. However, truth
be known, it is Blackberry that are the real losers in this instance. I
would find it hard to believe that that organization has a more
knowledgeable, likable, humble and truly pearl of person all wrapped into
one than they had in you. A man with your experience and personality will
be picked up in no time. Shoot, if I had a place for you, it would be a no
brainer. I wish you the best as you search for a new endeavor and if I can
be of any help to you, a reference or whatever, please don't hesitate to let
me know.

Best Regards,

Joe Russeau

Subject: [TN] Received layoff notice

TechNetters,

Well, at about two months shy of fifteen years, I have received my layoff
notice from RIM -> Blackberry for the 27th of November. What a ride! I got
to work for a company that changed the world. They let me go to IPC APEX the
week BEFORE I joined the company (and paid for it), build a group of 50 of
the greatest people and buy new, state-of-the art equipment so we had a lab
comparable to the other two best electronics manufacturing industry labs in
Canada. I joined when we were selling a little pager sized e-mail device
that ran on an AA battery. It was so tough you could literally throw it at a
wall, pop the battery back in and it kept on ticking. The ride up was
fantastic and the ride down has been as fast, although not nearly as much
fun. Over the last four years I picked people and I walked them out the
door. For sure the worst moments of my life in any job. For a number of
reasons the company lost its leading edge advantage and is now just a shell
of its former self. I wish my remaining compatriots there all the best, as
it morphs into. ??.

Anybody have a need for a slightly used chemist/lab administrator? I am not
ready to hang up my spurs yet.

Regards,

Bev Christian
