The other thing to worry about for space is that most press-fit connectors are tin-plated. The RoHS exemption 11b that allowed tin-lead on these expired. For Industrial Monitoring and Control, we got a replacement exemption IV-36 to re-allow Pb in the terminations. But manufacturers have already converted most of their parts to tin plating. Adding the necessary compression for press-fit combined with space conditions sounds like a great recipe for generating whiskers. The dimensional requirements on these parts don't lend themselves to solder-dipping for mediation. Evaluate carefully.
