Steve,
There are a number of components that don't go well with conformal
coating.  Either the coating interferes with function, as Adrian indicates,
or the components are not robust enough to withstand the solvents used.

Adrian, you might consider a UV curable peelable mask, on the order of a
Dymax EMAX 906B or Dymax 9-20515.  We have decent success with those and
they are much faster than latex masks.  I tested both for residues and both
are good.  The 906B is thicker, the 9-20515 is thinner.
