This all makes sense now. To me it is obvious what happened.
The Romans would never send out only a couple hundred troops and this is
what remained after their encounter with Frau Verärgert.
The troops that did not perish feared that upon returning to Rome, someone
would leak the truth that they were pummelled by a fraulein, which would
have meant public execution for all for bringing shame upon the Roman
empire. Thus, they sent back only a few of the most trusted men to say
that they were the only troops remaining after a fierce battle with the
Hessians, with a warning to not enter that region again - a warning that
was heeded.
Thus, there was no further push by the Romans to Hesse, and the few
hundred troops that survived lived in solitude, off the grid, until they
all died of old age. This explains why there is very little evidence of
any Roman existence in Hesse, as well as the apparent conflict - the
Romans never knew that they occupied an area in Hesse, but the area they
did occupy was very small and not made public.

Hi Lamar - I can't personally vouch for the EQAB but I believe they try
their best to be fair. On the other hand, those 7 guys do spend a bunch of
time underground mining ore so their global perspective could be in
question.....
Your data would suggest the Roman's did occupy the region and Doug said
they didn't. Such a data conflict.......

which would imply that the Romans occupied the modern day region of Hesse
and that is their point of dispute. The EQAB research did not find Roman
occupation (even for a day) of the Hesse province. If you can find someone
on TechNet in Germany who would refute the EQAB Roman research, then you
might have a claim.
