If the vertical board is mechanically fixed to the horizontal board by something other than these pins, wouldn't the pins offer some strain relief?  Or would the length of the pins amplify any high frequency vibrations from the horizontal board?

I believe I have seen SMT edge pins that clamp the board and can be soldered on both sides.  Or perhaps right angle through pins.
