Another point is they tend to see more than you want to know about. There
is CC software out there that literally inspects to IPC standards and is
better at it than the operators.
What I mean is if they have line of sight they will see defects. Bubbles,
de-wetting etc. Even if your operators cant!
This means it can be like opening Pandorašs box. Suddenly, you are in a
position where you donšt know what to accept and what not to pass.
Tan also makes a great point on materials. Silicones for example generally
donšt have a great UV fluorescence and can really fool a system. Then you
have the semi transparent nature of the coating interacting with the
colours below the surface. This can also cause problems.
What it really comes down to is some really intense programming to ensure
you minimise the false readings. Do that and you can see a 90% of what
operators do and it works on most PCBs.
A final point is that it also depends on the method of application. If you
are using a selective robot then they are excellent 99 times out of a 100.
After all the robot is spraying line of sight so the system can see it.
You start spraying 3D or dipping and want the system to inspect and Ioan
is right. You need a lot of cameras to do the job!
