Here is the Element Quiz Answer:

The Question:
This element's origin has a history heavily connected to Germany. It is a
poor conductor of electricity. It makes up one-hundredth of 1% of igneous
rocks. This element has wide commercial applications including an alloying
constituent in metals, batteries, catalysts, cookware and even toasters. Which
element is being described?

Bonus Question: Describe the connection of this element and Canada

The Answer:
The element is Nickel (Ni)! Nickel is often found in copper containing
ores. Early German miners had such difficulties smelting these copper ores
containing nickel that they named the unknown element they saw
"kupfernickel" or "Old Nick's copper" which translates to "devil's copper".
The elemental name was derived from these German origins. The heating
elements in toasters are made from nickel and nickel is combined with Fe,
Co and Al to produce Alnico magnets.

Bonus Question Answer:
The world's largest nickel mining operation is found in Ontario Canada and
is thought to be the ancient crash site of a very large meteorite
(meteorites contain significant amounts of nickel).

The winner of the weekly element quiz is Mike Fenner and he will get the
services of Clumpy and Kloumpios for the week. There was no winner of the
Bonus question.

I will be attending the SMTA ICSR Conference in Toronto and then a week of
whitewater kayaking in North Carolina so there will be no Quiz for a couple
weeks as I am going to have the boys hauling my kayaks after they help out
Mike. The Quiz will start back up in June.

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

-When the guys get down my way, I'm taking the rest of the week off. We're
gonna hit the Roanoke River for the annual striper run, and if the weather
is good, head on down to the Bogue Inlet Pier to check out the black drum
catch. It looks like they'll get in their share of fishing this time around!

Week 82 Robert Welch, Moog Components Group
-I'll put the little guys to work trying to find my desktop while I'm
plating up some blind micro-vias. If they do good I might take them after
some big Musky on the New river. I hope Muskies don't like to eat Gnomes!

Week 83 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
- After a very hectic week the boys are on their way back. They've been
helping to sort out component obsolescence issues, and also a bit of wild
animal training when taking our cat, Crapouiette, to the vet this morning
for a check-up. The vet describes her as a "naughty tourtie" - a
tortoiseshell. I do hope the scratches heal quickly (sorry boys).

Week 84 Mike Fenner
- assisted with ????

Everyone have a safe week.
