Not sure if it's been reported but long time Technutter, Phil Bavaro passed earlier this month from complications related to a melanoma.  He was a good man, a dear heart, a wild hair and major contributor where ever he landed.

Phil and I got on the forum at it's founding. We were coworkers in a little one product Sorrento Valley start up that no one thought was going to survive (let alone go on to be a Fortune 100 company).  It's long since been forgotten how the very survival of that company turned on some of his early manufacturing accomplishments (saves) in that company's history.

I don't use the word genius lightly but do believe Phil was indeed one. He taught me a great deal. His enthusiasm for the deep geekery of pwbs and soldered assemblies was contagious. For me, he was part of pwbs turning from simply an area of personal and professional interest into a passion and vocational calling & committment.  I owe a great deal to him and the knowledge he shared. The man had no ego.
He was generous with his time and knowledge and quick to include any who needed in on the team. Over the years we collaborated on all manner of pwb quality, technology and supplier issues.
Phil got caught up in spinoffs and layoffs that came many years later when the little startup got to be BigCo. We occasionally lost contact but always reconnected somehow -- often as a result of this forum.
Even afte rhe left we continued to support one another with consults, contacts and the occasional bit of venting.


His rabbits and rollerskates will be sorely missed around Pacific  Beach. If you were ever to find yourself out strolling an evening in Pacific Beach and were to notice a bare of bunnies tethered to a tree along the curb -- look up!!!  You would likely see Phil up that tree investigating an birds nest (while still wearing his roller skates).  Yes, the man took his rabbits for evening walks.
Yes, he wore those old school high top roller skates everywhere he wasn't driving (or push starting) his ancient VW Scirocco.  :)
