Perhaps more of a high-boiling plasticizer. Even if not at BP, the higher temp will help volatize it quicker, especially if a thin layer.

Hmmmm, but if the problem was a Teflon or silicone mold release agent, that should not have worked. Could it be that the boots had more of an oil issue, as Lee suggested?
