Thanks so much for that update!  My budget has been cut to $0.  None of these conferences are close enough to home for me to attend on my own dime.  I've sat in on a few of the standards meetings on conference calls, but it's really hard to participate that way (better than nothing).  It's been years since I've attended in person, putting faces to names is always a good thing.

The component mounting standards revisions are really interesting, some good "real world" kind of updates (a lot has changed sine 1996!)

I would have really appreciated the esurface presentation.  I've been watching esurface, as I think it's a real game changer in the PCB industry.  You described what's possible with their technology, but that's pretty much a side benefit.  Esurface looks like it may finally be the additive process the industry has tried to implement forever.  I would advise all of us designers keep an eye on this one!
