Ahh, the element that my esteemed colleague is referring to is the half
fractional element Lavendium (Ln 74.5), from which is derived the word
Lavender. Not only does it give a violet color in a flame test, the
material itself has a purple hue. In the song America the Beautiful, it
refers to “for purple mountains majesty”, and the purple comes from
Lavendium. The most notable characteristic of Lavendium is that it greatly
intensifies the smell of something. It is frequently added to soaps and
candles, and the presence of Lavendium is why the smells of your average
Bed Bath and Beyond stores are sufficient to level most men at 200 paces.
Women have a much higher tolerance for the effects of Lavendium than men,
and current research is focused on the apparent interactions of Lavendium
and estrogen. Dave’s statement that it is essential to all living
organisms is a bit of a stretch. Certainly it appears to be essential to
all women and therefore indirectly to all men. Reminds me of Mark Twain.
He was once asked what men would be without women. His response – “Scarce
Sir, mighty scarce”. Now the Greek word Petra is an interesting tie in.
Petra was the Greek Goddess of Annoying Hues who was unable to speak in
“primary colors” that were comprehensible by the male Greek Gods. She was
constantly referring to lavender, mauve, fuchsia, amethyst, orchid, etc.,
instead of “purple”. Legend has it she so annoyed Zeus that Petra was
banished to hell where she tormented Hades by constantly redecorating
hell. At present, it is not known exactly who refined the first samples of
Lavendium, but experts agree it must have been one of the early women
chemists, possibly Mme. Curie.
Now I sit in breathless anticipation of how my esteemed colleague will
disqualify my brilliant discourse. And for those of you helpful
individuals out there who seek to assist Dave in such disqualifications,
mind your own damn business....... On the other hand, having a rational
scientific disqualification is easier to accept than the garbage Dave
normally comes up with.
