Control over proper PPE, tools, materials, and consumables sure seems to be difficult, doesn't it?
Doesn't matter that you have approved lists, somebody always is going off and buying items not on the approved lists. Some examples I can think of are fluxed solder wick or solder braid, where they introduce a no-clean flux where you don't want it. I only approve non-fluxed wick and show them how to add flux to the wick using program-approved flux.
Another example is when they bring in small portable inspection systems with high-gloss shiny plastic non-ESD safe cases. "Isn't this a great tool?!!"
Or plastic syringes that have a silicone lubricant inside.
Or they substitute brillo pads instead of the required sponges on the solder irons (prohibited by GUIDEP Alert: metallic FOD breaks off).
Or.......

Subject: Re: [TN] Wave solder apron?

I don't like vinyl around wave solder either. I've always gone by the rule of no synthetic garments around wave solder. But there were complaints about the operators smocks getting dirty around the wave and KISS, so someone in their infinite wisdom bought these vinyl aprons for them to wear without talking with me about it.

I just wanted to see how many of you thought it was a dumb idea like I did...
