Here is the Element Quiz Answer:

The Question:
This element is considered "rare" despite it being widely distributed over
the Earth's crust. Its abundance is estimated at 1x10-1 milligrams per
kilogram and does not occur as a free metal. It is typically produced as a
byproduct of refining other ore bodies. It is used to make meltable metal
fuses and is used to make brilliant red/yellow/orange artist's paints. What
element is being described?

The Answer:
The element is Cadmium (Cd)! Cadmium is found in an ore called greenockite
(cadmium sulfite) but the ore does not have a high enough concentration of
Cd to be extracted profitably. Cadmium is typically obtained as a by
product of refining zinc ores instead. Cadmium is a major constituent of an
alloy called Wood's Metal which is used as a fuse in overhead sprinklers in
fire suppression systems because it melts at 70C.

The winner(s) of the weekly element quiz is Jim West, N.S. International,
and he will get the services of Clumpy and Kloumpios for the week.

The EQAB reviewed Doug's submission of Fusium and because it has a
sublimation temperature of 1232.6C, it clearly can not be used as a fire
sprinkler system as a fuse - the building would be ash and the fuse would
still be solid!

So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

- Well Holiday time is very near so, great it's always tough picking out a
tree they can help with that this weekend! Enjoy a little nog too! With a
little dark rum of course! Maybe the John Deer can help drag it out from
the deep woods! Sat was way too rainy here to pick a tree so Sun was the
day! They can help with putting it up & decorating it during the week
too. We can enjoy some Dark & Stormy's for the decoration efforts.

Week 69 Joe Russeau, PAL.
- I'm going to give Leland an early Christmas gift by sending the boys off
to his facility. However, when the boys arrived my kids put them to work
right away playing dolls and trucks. Isaac, my six year old, showed the
boys the nice hole accidentally put in our new couch by Gramma Tex. To
which the boys asked, why do you call your grandma, Gramma Tex? Isaac said
because she branded our COWCH (True story about Isaac, the couch and Gramma
Tex; he came up with that on his own). Claire, my three-year-old, kept
squeezing the stuffing out of Kloumpios. She kept calling him Wayne from
Prep and Landing. Our youngest, Jacob, demoted mom and dad from diaper
doody and promoted the boys. They were still sporting hazmat suits when
they left this morning. Clumpy insisted on using my oxygen tank from my
oxy-acetylene torch set-up. While they enjoy fraternizing with people
their own size, the boys seemed ready to hit the road this morning. I
don't think they are use to all that excitement and energy. So Leland,
they may be a bit amped up when they arrive. Red Bull was a popular
beverage with them over the weekend.

Week 69 Leland Woodall, Keihin North America
-The guys are doing a great job helping me prepare for next week. We all
gathered up leaves and mowed the yard yesterday. The neighbors had never
seen three John Deeres in one yard before. After work we'll get busy
completing the remaining Christmas décor and wrapping the remainder of the
packages

Week 70 Jim West, N.S. International
