The Question:
This element has a radioactive isotope that is used to check blood flow in
constricted arteries. The moon's basalt rocks contain significantly more of
this element than the earth's basalt rocks. A trace amount of this element
is essential for humans as its needed to utilize glucose. What element is
being described?
The Answer:
The element is Chromium (Cr)! Many chromium compounds have been found to be
deadly to humans but we need a very small amount for some critical
functions. Chromium-51 has a half life of 27 days and is used to assess
blood flow in arteries. Chromium derives its name from the Greek "chroma"
which means "colors".
The winner of the weekly element quiz is Leland Woodall, CSTech Inc. and
Brien Bush, Cirtronics. They will get the services of Clumpy and Kloumpios for
the week. The Collins Firewall time stamp had them as providing the correct
response at the same time so the boys will split time between their
facilities.
So far Clumpy and Kloumpios have done the following:

Week 60 Graham Collins, Sunsel Systems- The boys can help me sort
through the mound of information I'm being flooded with on the topic
of selective soldering machines. Despite specifying what sort of
characteristics I'm looking for in a machine there have been a couple
of sales people who have simply dumped info on me concerning all of
their offerings...And of course we will have to get the boys out for a
sail, and some beer and a donair.
Week 61 James Head, Crowcon Detection Instruments Limited
- The boys were a bit taken aback when they arrived at our new facility and
it took a while to get them to stay still long enough for their photos to
be taken for the new ID access cards. They've been busy all week working
on conformal coating drawings and decorating the hallway of my house. We're
having a new kitchen delivered in a few weeks so as a reward I've told them
they can eat up every bit of food they can find in the current kitchen. I
guess we'll be eating out tonight!
