Hi folks - Here is the Element Quiz Answer:

The Question:
This element, when added to glass, acts as a filter to UV rays. This
element has 4 oxidation states. The name of this element is derived from a
mythological Scandinavian goddess. What element is being described?

Bonus Question: Name the mythological Scandinavian goddess

The Answer:

The element is Vanadium (V)! Vanadium has 4 oxidation states with allows it
to combine with most non metals and even act as a nonmetal itself at times.
Vanadium is used as a catalyst in many organic chemical reactions. Vanadium
derives its name from the Scandinavian mythological goddess of youth and
beauty - Vanadis.

- The boys were waiting for me when I arrived at 5:45, this morning. They
had picked the lock and the coffee was ready when I walked into the
building! During the work-days, I'll have them sorting the boxes in the
stock-room, and then have them perform a quick-count on the inventory. When
they are done with that, they'll clean the solder-flux splash from the
objective lenses of the microscope, and maybe get some of the dust cleaned
from the internal lenses. Evenings, I can have them cook dinners, giving
my wife a rest, and then (after they've finished cleaning up), they can go
down to the basement workshop and build up the next group of ShortSniffer
cables. They have more energy and much better work ethics than my kids
ever did . . .

Week 57 Leland Woodall, CSTech Inc
- I didn't really expect to see the guys this morning because I wasn't very
sure of my answer. I had nothing prepared, and I think Carl worked 'em
pretty hard last week. I gave them a hundred bucks each and sent them to
Nags Head. Their mission is to hit the Avalon Pier and catch some fresh
fish for the table later this week. They're happily headed down Route 64
on their mowers, and we'll be enjoying some flounder and trout on Thursday
evening if all goes well!
