James,

In my opinion, you can define it as one or the other, chip or flat lug.

Get with the customer and agree on the package type that will be used for assembly validation, note it in the production file.

When dealing with new package styles or hybrid package styles it is best to get with the customer and agree on what package style will be used to evaluate assembly. If you are the customer then get with the assembly house and get some type of agreement in place so there is a clear understanding of what each other's expectations are.

That’s why there is that disclaimer in A-610 that’s the catch all " the acceptance criteria needs to be defined between the customer and supplier."

Tom,

My original question referred to IPC-A-610.

Can you give the answer using this Document?

I feel like I asked a question and it was answered using a different spec. If I take this answer to the Assembly folks, they will not accept it (and neither will I).

Please answer using IPC-A-610 as the reference document.

Thanks!

Regards,

James
