My esteemed colleague refers to the element Vampirium (Vm-47.5), another of
the half fractional elements, appearing between Ag 47 and Cd 48 in the
periodic table. Vampirium was first isolated by Dr. Bujoreni Valcea at the
University of Romania – Curtea de Arges in 1793. Being in the heart of the
Transylvanian Alps, Dr. Valcea’s family had a long history of dealing with
Vampires, with Van Helsing being a distant relative. Dr. Valcea research
focused on garlic as the classic ward for vampires. He found that
Transylvanian newt garlic had the highest concentration of an unknown
element, which he tried to separate out using electrochemical methods, but
as Dave indicates, it is a poor conductor of electricity and ended up as a
slime-like substance on the electrodes. He did find the slime to be highly
effective at keeping vampires away and so named the material Vampirium,
reasoning that since his discovery, not once was he attacked by vampires.
Unfortunately, the slime also smelled of rotten garlic and Dr. Valcea was
not attacked (or approached) by anyone else either. Consequently, Dr.
Valcea’s line ended with Dr. Valcea as not even the most
olfactory-challenged woman would approach Dr. Valcea either.

So, Dave, what convoluted chain of reasoning will you use this time?
