Ahh, my esteemed colleague refers to the half fractional element, Bonkium
(Bn-26.5). Archaeological digs at the famed West Butte Montana site
showed that Bonkium was first used by Neanderthal man in ancient times.
Chunks of Bonkium-rich ore (thumpite) could be affixed easily to tree
branches, making for effective clubs. Unfortunately, Bonkium tends to be a
relatively fragile material and so easily turns into dust. Consequently,
as Neanderthal man thumped the mammoths, the clubs broke down, the Bonkium
turned to dust and was washed to out sea. That, and natural erosion, is
why so much is in the sea and not on land.

Bonkium was first refined into its pure form by Dr. Vasiliki Calliope at
the Eastern Mediterranean University in Famagusta, Cyprus. Not much is
documented of that work as Dr. Calliope found that Bonkium dust, when
inhaled was a powerful hallucinogen, and extended exposure resulted in
insanity. The term "gone bonkers" originated as a consequence.

As Dave indicates, Ernest Ruthorford did experiment with Bonkium. He
bombarded targets of Bonkium with X rays and found that in the irradiated
state, Bonkium isotopes resulted in significantly raising the IQ of people
nearby. His sponsors in the British government latched onto this, and over
Rutherford's objections that the research was incomplete, decided to
incorporate irradiated Bonkium into all surfaces at Parliament. Rutherford
later determined that the irradiation only gave the illusion of brilliance,
was decidedly short term, and hastened the onset of senility. By then it
was too late and Parliament has never been the same.

In the War of 1812, the British, when burning Washington DC, secretly
salted the US Capitol with irradiated Bonkium and the US Congress has never
been the same.

There is anecdotal information that suggests there is a high purity vein of
Bonkium in Cedar Rapids, accounting for the behavior of certain engineers,
who shall remain nameless..........
